Adoption Information:

Around 100,000 children are adopted in America every year, and the numbers are going up as the stigma surrounding

adoption dissolves and families become more aware of adoption as an option.  Some of these children are adopted domestically through state funded or private agencies; others come to their forever homes from distant lands.

According to the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute, six out of ten Americans are affected by adoption in some way.  So, odds are, either as an unsure pregnant woman, a couple struggling with infertility, a woman with a desire to adopt orphans, or a close friend or family member to one of these, adoption will touch your life.  And as a Christian, aren’t we are all touched by adoption since God adopted us?

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. (Ephesians 1:3-6)

Did you know????

*There are Christian adoption agencies that will only place children into approved Christian homes.

*Most adoption agencies have social workers that provide financially and judgment free counseling to pregnant women to help them decide if adoption is right for them.

*Birthmoms don’t “give up” babies; they lovingly choose not to parent them and place them gently into the arms of an adoptive family.

*Birthmothers can choose the family they wish to parent their child.

*Birthparents can have ongoing communication with their children, even after the adoption is final.

*The US Government has a $10,900 tax credit for adoptive families to alleviate adoption expenses.

*A UNAIDS/UNICEF/USAID collaboration ‘Children on the Brink 2004’ estimates that there are a total of 143 million orphans worldwide!

*Adoption through the state foster care system bears minimal to no cost to the adoptive family.

*Some countries have escorts available to bring your child to you, so travel to another country is not necessary in all intercountry adoptions.

*Once an adoption is finalized by the courts, it’s final.  No one can disrupt an adoption beyond this point.

*There are online and community support groups available for birthparents, adoptees, and adoptive families-no matter where you live.
